He was in fact the very first staff person and toured throughout the world representing Youth for Christ and sharing the love of Jesus. Spoken from Arkansas, Sent By Ravens from South Carolina, Sheridan and The TV Says both from Colorado. We had over 200 people there and everyone seemed to have a great time. I have the complete study as a rough draft and I'm just going through and making corrections for the final project. This is an incredibly exciting time because we are then going to use this study, which is a culmination of many months of research, to then secure the funding to make this vision a reality. So here is where we are.
Our business developer spoke to some bankers about the possibility of getting the funding for a project during this economy. After they stopped laughing and saw he was serious, they gently continued with informing him that banks aren't really doing any loans at this point. Funding is essentially frozen during this economy so we should simply wait. Now, my reaction to that was, 'Did God tell David to wait till he was closer to Goliath's size before attacking? HECK NO!!!!' (And you can bet as David got physically closer, that giant just kept growing.) So we decided to prayerfully continue.
Here was the plan. We would finish the business and feasibility plan (which should come back from the printers at the end of next week) and then begin to look for ways to secure the funding. We have a grant writer from Atlanta who felt confident if we were able to secure 50% of the funding she would be able to get the rest in matching grants. So that put us at praying for 50% of a very large sum. (I wonder if David also looked at what people said about his attack of Goliath and was like, 'You must not have heard God called me to this. Sorry you missed that memo and I hope you catch up.') I know this 50% is huge, but at this point $10,000 is the same to us as $10,000,000--it all must come from God.
We began looking to finishing this research, compiling it, and seeking funding. Well, turns out our business developer made a contact with a funding source and told them of this project. They wanted to know more so he showed them some of our research. They in turn sent us a letter on Monday (before we have finished this business plan) giving us preliminary funding approval for a loan. Remember, we were told no one was willing to make loans for projects like this. We were hoping to be able to secure 50% of the funding in some way so we could get the grant writer the resources she needed to secure the other 50%. Well, this preliminary funding approval was for 75% of our total project--and we haven't completed the business plan yet!
As I shared some of what God is doing in this project with a friend of mine (who was seriously considering committing his life to Christ and since has), he said, "Look at what is happening with this thing and try to deny there is a God." My hope is you have the same reaction.
Here is how we need you very much right now. We need prayer for this funding to come through completely. Then we need prayer for the additional funding to come in and we would really like at least 50% of the funding to be from grants or other sources we don't have to pay back. We also really need you to help us build a prayer team for this. As long as we are shooting big, we are looking to get 500 people to pray for this. We will be sending you more information on this soon with ways to get either daily updates or weekly updates for prayer. We will also be meeting at YFC on the last Sunday of this month to have some lead prayer time as a group. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, begin praying now for this incredible vision God is bringing together and get other people to join us in praying this into reality.
